Two Career Paths: The Nightclub offers two exciting career opportunities - Dancer and DJ. Whether you want to show off your moves on the dance floor or spin tracks behind the booth, the Nightclub is where the party happens!
Work Schedule: Your typical work day will last from 8:00pm to just after 4:00am with seven "rounds" during your shift. Each round lasts for 5 minutes, with a one minute break in between.
Dancer Skills: Body | DJ Skills: Creativity
π Dancer Career
Gotten break dance, can-can, and groove, but still looking for a little more? Have a go at the dancer job track at the Nightclub! The Dancer job track is a fun way to spend time with friends and earn a few extra Simoleons and body skill points on the side.
Entering the Club
When you land, you will notice that there are indeed two doors to the Nightclub, one for the VIP people, including you and the other DJ's and dancers, as well as one for the NPC (Non-Player Character) guests. Sadly, you cannot get into where all of the couches, dance floors, bars and other goodies are, or else you will get a message informing you that the wrong door is being used. However, you get to play with all the fun job equipment, so just head on over to the other door, and get ready to boogie!
Dance Platforms
Inside, you will find four different dance stations of four different colors. Choose whichever dance platform you prefer, from red, yellow, green, and blue, and click on 'Dance' in the pie menu to begin your job. Your Sim will step up onto the platform and stand idle, until the round starts and you have access to your interface, or you click something once it is activated.
If you have ever used the dance floor object at an entertainment lot, the controls on the dance platform will be extremely familiar, since the only difference is the lack of a 'Dance to the Music' option. The object of the dancer job is to find the combination of dance moves that draws the most NPC dancers to your side of the dance floor. However, not just anything will do. Experiment with different moves, and if one attracts the guest dancers, use it in conjunction with other moves. The dancers get bored very easily, so mix up your moves often, and throw in a surprise or two to keep your dancing fresh. The more NPC dancers you attract, the higher your payout in the end.
Floor Patterns
During the round keep an eye on the dance floor. There are a couple patterns to watch for that will indicate your progress:
- After a correct dance a square outline with your station color will appear at the edges and shrink into the center.
- If you get all three dances correct a tunnel of three shrinking squares will be created in the sequence.
Make sure you get to your dance platform quickly, before the one minute break is over, to be precise, or else an NPC dancer will take over the platform for you. In addition, if you have no DJ, an NPC DJ will appear for you. These NPC's are mediocre at what they do, so to maximize on your payout, team up with a good, real Sim.
End of Round
When the shift is over a dialog box will pop up telling you how much money you have earned in the round. The payout varies depending on how well you did at attracting NPC's during the round, so always remember to watch the dancers and what moves tickle their fancies. Another box may pop up at this time telling you that you were promoted to the next level. At the end of a work day you will get an additional pop up telling you what you need to improve on to be promoted. This could either be friends, skill, or your overall mood (green). During the intermission or 'coffee break' you can do things to help keep your Sim green, back cracks, hustle dances, flying hugs, etc...
Demotions
If you receive a message that you have been demoted, it is likely your Sim no longer meets the requirements to work at the current level. This could be a lack of required skill points, or friendships. It is best to use your available skill locks to lock the required skill for the job at 10.00, or the highest level it is at so you will not be caught off guard by skill decay. For friendships, make sure to keep in touch with all your friends frequently, just a little bit of daily interaction will top off your lifetime relationship score.
Once demoted, you will lose the number of shifts you have worked towards your next promotion and be placed back in the level below your previous one. There is no need to worry too much though, because to get promoted back to where you were all you have to do is meet the requirements and work one round at your current level.
π‘ Dancer Tips:
- If you have no idea what moves the dancers are jazzed up by, just queue up any moves to keep yourself moving. Chances are, even if the payout you get isn't great, you will at least get some money and points toward a promotion.
- Pay attention to the dancers themselves! While most of the time, they only do generic dance moves, they occasionally do moves which they like or wish to see. So if you see the guests all dancing Freestyle or doing the Moonwalk, give the guests what they want and queue up a few.
- Steal shamelessly! Though that may seem rather underhanded, it is a very good way to get dancers to come to you. Simply watch what other dancers are doing to attract the guests, and queue those moves up yourself.
- Just do the moves that seem to be going for you. Even if you don't have a big crowd, or if it comes and goes sporadically, you are still gaining points for the time you have them grooving to your moves.
- The patterns on the floor aren't just for decoration, so pay close attention to them! If a square outline is shrinking towards the center, it means they should keep doing the move that they are working with.
- Team up with a good DJ, and you will be raking in the dough without breaking a sweat. Real Sims are far more efficient than NPC's, so find a good partner or friend.
π§ DJ Career
The night is young and it's time to party! If you are ready to throw down some booty shakin', floor raisin' in your face beats then the DJ at a local night club is the job for you. The DJ job track is a fun way to spend time with friends and earn a few extra Simoleons and creativity skill points on the side.
DJ Booths
After you arrive you'll need to pick a DJ booth, there are 4 different ones colored red, blue, green and yellow. Select your booth by clicking on it and choosing "Spin records" from the pie menu. When you choose that your Sim will step up to the booth and your menu will appear with the following: DRUMS, BASS, SYNTH, VOX. These are lettered A - D and two columns numbered 1 - 4.
Your job is to pick the correct sequence of numbers and letters so that it produces a beat that attracts NPCs to your side of the dance floor and keeps them there. Remember, you are in competition with the other 3 DJs, so keep it fresh by mixing it up. (FYI: Rounds where you don't attract NPCs don't count as credit for promotion.)
Floor Patterns
During the round keep an eye on the dance floor. There are several patterns to watch for that will indicate your progress:
- A wave of your station color at the top or bottom of the floor indicates you are further away from the correct sequence.
- A line sweep of your station color across the floor indicates you are getting closer to the correct sequence.
- An arrow in the color of your station will move across the floor for each correct instrument sequence you get.
Finding the Right Beat
So what works best? Well there really is no set method to success because the beats the NPC's will start dancing to are different each round. Just watch closely to see how the dancers react to what you are doing. If no one is attracted to your current mix, change the mix until they start to move your way. When you have found the right beat that draws the crowds over to you, make small changes to keep your mix fresh.
End of Round
When the shift is over a dialog box will pop up telling you how much money you have earned in the round. The payout varies depending on how well you did at attracting NPC's during the round, so always remember to watch the dancers and what beats tickle their fancies. At the end of a work day you will get an additional pop up telling you what you need to improve on to be promoted. This could either be friends, skill, or your overall mood (green). π‘ DJ Tips:
- Once you find a good beat stick with it, if you leave the same crowd attracting sequence playing the NPCs will drift back and forth to you the entire round.
- The same letters across the menu seems to attract more of a crowd. This can change though as NPCs are picky creatures.
- Find what works for you and stick with it.
- The floor, pay attention to the floor! Every so often a strip of color will either go horizontally or diagonally across the floor, this is your clue as to who is a hit with the crowd at that moment.
- Watch for special patterns. For example, if you see an arrow scrolling towards your team, that means to keep doing what you're doing.
- Pair up with a good dancer. The better you work together and most importantly please the crowd the better your payout will be.
