🔨 Crafting Guide

With crafting, Sims can build special objects that cannot be purchased by any other means. Sims create objects using the Thumbhammer Workbench, available in the Skill & Job Objects category. The retail cost is quite pricey, so we suggest purchasing them from a lot in the shopping category where they usually go for 50% off retail price.

⚠️ Important: Workbenches can only be used in lots that are in the Services category.

📦 Components

Crafting requires specific component objects and skill levels. It's recommended to have high green needs before beginning. There are three types of components:

Box of Wood
🪵 Box of Wood

The basic component required in just about every object to some varying degree.

Bolt of Cloth
🧵 Bolt of Cloth

Needed for items that give high comfort, such as sofas and beds.

Box of Spare Parts
⚙️ Box of Spare Parts

Most needed for machinery or electronics objects such as televisions and appliances.

Component objects appear as single-tile objects that can be placed on surfaces or on the ground.

🔧 Salvaging

Components are obtained by salvaging existing objects around your property. Salvaging will completely destroy an object and turn it into a pile of garbage, so be careful in your selection!

Receiving Components from Salvaging

How to Salvage:

Click on the object you've chosen to salvage and select the "Salvage" option. If you don't see this option, the object is probably not owned by you or cannot be salvaged. You'll see a confirmation dialogue before proceeding. Your Sim will produce a mallet and smash away until nothing but garbage is left.

What You'll Get:

  • Tables and chairs generally produce wood
  • Decorative and seating items produce cloth
  • Appliances and electronics produce parts

The amount depends on the object's age, cost, wear, and your Logic, Mechanical, and Creativity skills. Rule of thumb: The older and more expensive the item, the better.

⚠️ Note: If your Sim's inventory is full, you won't be able to salvage.

🛠️ Crafting Objects

To craft an object, your Sim clicks on the Workbench and chooses what type of item to build from the pie menu. You'll be warned that this will cost Simoleons, possibly components, and can be exhausting. Components and Simoleons are removed after the attempt is made.

Objects that are successfully crafted will carry the builder's name for the object's entire lifespan. In buy mode, crafted objects display "Crafted by:" so even if the object is no longer owned by you, its origin is known. The name stays with the object even if you delete or recreate your Sim.

💡 Success Tips:

  • Make sure your hunger, hygiene, and energy bars are fully green
  • You can attempt crafting even without meeting requirements, but chances are very low
  • The more your Sim exceeds the skill requirements, the more likely you'll succeed
  • These objects are rare and can be sold for more than their retail price

✨ Rare Crafts

When crafting certain objects, there's a chance to create a rare variant of that item! Rare crafts have the same requirements, costs, and component needs as their regular counterparts, but feature unique visual designs.

🎲 How Rare Crafts Work:

  • Rare variants have a small random chance of being crafted instead of the regular version
  • You cannot specifically choose to craft a rare variant - it happens by chance
  • Same skill requirements, same components, same cost - just a lucky outcome!
  • Rare items are marked with a ⭐ gold star and have a golden border in the table below
  • These highly sought-after items can be even more valuable than regular crafts
