Death

Death in XenoSO is a temporary state that adds supernatural gameplay elements without permanent consequences. Sims can become ghosts through various methods, interact with the living world in limited ways, and be revived through multiple options. Death provides roleplaying opportunities and unique interactions while maintaining the lighthearted nature of the game.

💀 Terminal Methods

There are currently four different ways in which a Sim can become a ghost, all of them with their pros and cons. Electrocution, drowning, starvation, and robot explosions are all methods of turning into a ghost.

⚡ Death by Electrocution

Electrocution occurs when Sims attempt to repair broken electrical appliances without sufficient Mechanical skill. This death method is one of the easiest to trigger intentionally, as it only requires finding a broken electrical object and manually instructing the Sim to repair it.

The likelihood of electrocution decreases as Mechanical skill increases. Sims with 20 Mechanical skill have 0% chance of death when repairing objects. Additionally, maintaining high Energy levels further reduces the risk of fatal electrocution.

This method is quick and controllable, making it ideal for demonstration purposes. However, finding broken electrical appliances may be challenging, and high Mechanical skill makes successful electrocution difficult to achieve.

🌊 Death by Drowning

Drowning occurs when a Sim's Energy motive depletes to zero while swimming in a pool, causing them to fall asleep in the water. This death method can be either accidental or intentional depending on how well the Sim's Energy is managed before swimming.

The time it takes to drown varies significantly based on Energy levels. A Sim with completely depleted Energy (red motive bar) will drown within seconds to a minute, while a Sim with full Energy (green motive bar) may take over an hour of real-life time to succumb. This variability makes drowning useful for controlling death timing, though it requires pool access and careful Energy management.

ðŸ―ïļ Death by Starvation

Starvation is the slowest death method in XenoSO, occurring when the Hunger motive depletes completely over an extended period. Even when Hunger isn't completely full at the start, the process takes approximately 5-6 real-life hours to reach death. Once the Hunger bar enters the red zone, decay slows dramatically, prolonging the time until actual death occurs.

Due to the extensive time requirement, starvation deaths are typically accidental, occurring when players remain AFK for extended periods. Sims can also starve at crafting tables if their Hunger is too low when beginning a crafting session. While the starvation animation is amusing and rarely seen, the impracticality of the time investment makes this the least common intentional death method.

ðŸ’Ĩ Death by Explosion

Robot explosions at the Robot Factory provide a unique death method exclusive to players employed at this job location. To experience this death, Sims must apply for the Robot Factory position through a computer or newspaper and attend work when scheduled.

Death occurs when standing adjacent to or on the conveyor belt near a malfunctioning robot. Warning signs include robots backing up on the track or sparking and sizzling. Any tile adjacent to the exploding robot is dangerous, though diagonal tiles are considered safe zones. Players can also avoid death by moving completely away from the explosion area.

Dying at the Robot Factory results in no payment for work completed during that shift, though it doesn't penalize job performance. Unlike other death methods, Robot Factory deaths do not leave tombstones or urns. While the explosion animation is amusing and relatively easy to trigger, the loss of shift payment is the primary drawback.

ðŸ‘ŧ Being a Ghost

Ghost Sims gain access to unique interactions while facing significant limitations in object interaction and motive management.

Ghost Interactions

Ghosts receive special self-interactions including Examine Cause of Death, which displays an amusing animation of how the Sim died, and Headless Haunt, an entertainment option. When interacting with living Sims, ghosts can use Spook and Possess interactions, both harmless entertainment features. Normal social interactions between living and deceased Sims are unavailable, with only the transactions menu remaining accessible for secure trades, money transfers, and lot management.

Examine Cause of Death Headless Haunt

Ghost-to-ghost interactions function normally, with all standard Sim social options available when two ghosts meet.

Limitations

Ghosts cannot interact with most objects in the game world. Using Buy Mode at owned properties only displays the ghost's inventory. All motives except Room decay to fixed levels and remain frozen unless the ghost is actively interacting with another ghost Sim.

âœĻ Getting Revitalized

Ghosts can return to life through two distinct methods: automatic revival after a timed period or immediate Shaman revival.

Automatic Revival (24-Hour Timer)

After 24 XenoSO hours (~2 real-life hours) pass following death, ghosts receive an automatic revival prompt. Accepting this prompt causes the Sim to stagger briefly before returning to life. Declining the prompt requires waiting another 24 XenoSO hours for the next opportunity, or seeking an alternative revival method.

Shaman Revival

Shamans are Sims who possess 8 Cooking skill and 8 Charisma skill, enabling them to revive ghosts on demand. These skilled Sims can typically be found at properties in the Services category or at Cooking and Charisma skill lots.

The Shaman revival process involves a ritual dance performed around the ghost, lasting approximately one minute. A progress bar displays completion status similar to object repair animations. Upon completion, the ghost returns to life with all motives (except Room) restored to 50%.

ðŸ”Ū Being a Shaman

Shamans are Sims who possess the ability to revive ghosts, requiring only 8 Cooking skill and 8 Charisma skill. Once these skill requirements are met, the Revitalize interaction becomes available when clicking on ghost Sims.

Revitalize Option

Revival Requirements

Successful revival requires the Shaman to maintain adequate motives (green or at least non-red levels) and sufficient space for the ritual. In open areas without walls, a minimum 4x4 tile area is needed when both Sims are centered diagonally. Enclosed rooms require a larger 8x8 tile area under the same positioning. Most Shamans perform revivals in lot streets, which provide ample space and eliminate positioning concerns.

Revival Process

The revival takes approximately one minute, during which the Shaman performs a ritual dance around the ghost. A status bar similar to object repair progress appears above the ghost, indicating completion percentage. Once finished, the ghost returns to life with all motives except Room restored to 50%.

ðŸŠĶ Tombstones & Urns

Death leaves physical mementos in the form of tombstones or urns, serving as permanent markers of a Sim's demise. The type of grave marker depends on the location of death: indoor deaths produce urns, while outdoor deaths create one of three differently-sized tombstones. Deaths occurring at the Robot Factory are an exception, leaving no grave marker at all.

These grave markers appear for deaths caused by drowning, starvation, and electrocution. They function as Build Mode objects with no owner, making them impossible to sell for profit. At owned properties, tombstones and urns can be moved freely, while at other properties, the lot owner controls their placement and removal.

Interactions and Limitations

Tombstones and urns feature a Mourn interaction, which provides entertainment value while decreasing the mourning Sim's Social motive. These grave markers do not count toward a property's object limit, making them easy to collect or display without affecting build capacity.
