Everything you need to know about caring for your furry friends
Welcome to the Pets Guide! Looking to adopt a loyal companion? Whether you're interested in a playful puppy, a curious kitten, or a low-maintenance aquatic friend, this guide has everything you need. Learn about the different types of pets available in XenoSO and how to keep them happy and healthy!
Types of Pets
๐ Object Pets
Object pets are low-maintenance companions that don't require much care. They're essentially interactive objects like small fish tanks. If they pass away, you can easily replace them without needing a new container. Perfect for busy Sims!
๐๐ Sim Pets
Cats and dogs are Sim pets - they behave like regular Sims with their own needs and personalities! Don't worry about the commitment though - when you need a break, just put them back in their carrier and take them out when you're ready to play!
Dog Breeds
There are 19 different breeds of dogs available! When you purchase a carrier from the catalog, the breed inside is completely random. The Saint Bernard, Robot, Pink Poodle, and Afghan are rare breeds that appear much less frequently than others.
Cat Breeds
There are 20 different breeds of cats available! Just like dogs, the breed you get from a carrier is random. The Tiger, Robot, Purple Turkish, and Cheetah are rare breeds that show up less frequently.
Pet Care Basics
๐ Getting Started: Purchase your new companion from the Pets section in buy mode. Cats come in the "Felicitous Feline in Sta-Put Pet Carrier" and dogs in the "Peppy Puppy in Sta-Put Carrier". Click on your pet and select "Change Name" to give them a personalized name!
๐ Hunger
Keep a food dish handy, clean, and full at all times. Your pets will eat when they're hungry - they're very independent! ยง15 is a small price to keep your furry friend happy and healthy.
๐ฝ Bladder
Cats: Naturally use litter boxes - just keep them clean!
Dogs: Need outdoor objects like shrubs or trees. Be patient as they learn where to go!
๐ด Energy
Pets love to sleep! Provide a comfortable bed, house, or tower for maximum energy recovery. While they can sleep on the floor, a proper pet bed keeps them happier and more comfortable.
๐ Hygiene
Cats: Self-cleaning through grooming!
Dogs: Need pet baths regularly. They'll let you know with a shower icon when they're dirty.
๐พ Fun & Social
Pets need attention! Pet them, praise them, and play with them regularly. Cats enjoy scratching posts, while dogs love to wrestle. Build a strong relationship for a happy pet!
๐ญ Communication
Pets tell you what they need through thought bubbles and sounds. If they're whining loudly, they really need something! Pay attention to their cues to keep them content.

Pet Interactions & Training
Interacting with your pets is essential for building relationships and training them. Here are the key interactions available for cats and dogs:
โ Check Relationship Status
View your pet's relationship status with you and other Sims. This helps you understand how your pet feels about different people!
๐ Check Personality and Skills
See detailed information about your pet's personality traits and skill levels in hunting (cats) or obedience (dogs).
Social Interactions
๐ Pet
A friendly way to increase fun and social needs. Works great for both cats and dogs!
๐ Praise
Increases your pet's Social need. Use this when your pet behaves well. Don't overuse it though - too much praise can make them lazy.
๐ค Wrestle (Dogs Only)
Increases dog-owner relationship after successful interaction. Great way to bond with your furry friend while increasing fun!
Training Interactions
๐ Call Over (Both Cats & Dogs)
Rebalanced obedience training. Cats gain +20 Obedience per successful use, Dogs gain +10 Obedience per successful use. Helps teach your pet to come when called.
๐ญ Hunt Mice (Cats Only)
Awards Hunting Skill and increases Obedience Skill. Your cat can advance through 5 levels: Novice Rat Eradicator โ Rookie Rodent Remover โ Jerboa Constrictor โ Professional Pest Pouncer โ Master Mouser.
๐ง Seek Hydrant (Dogs Only)
Dogs autonomously seek hydrant objects when available. They'll use them to fulfill their bladder needs without you having to command them.
๐ก Pro Tip: Interactions that increase pet skills now show a visual indicator. Be mindful with praise and scolds - balance is key for healthy pet behavior.
Preventing Runaways
๐ Pets Can Run Away! To prevent your pet from running away, make sure they have enough food, a comfortable place to sleep, and plenty of attention. Always respond to their thought bubbles when they need something!
๐ Pro Tip: When you're leaving the house, logging off, or stepping away, always put your pet back in their carrier! Click your pet and select "Get back in your carrier!" from the menu. They'll be safe and secure until you're ready to play with them again. Your roommates can do this too!
๐พ Remember: Whether you choose an object pet or a Sim pet, giving them attention and care will ensure you both have long and happy lives together. After all, no one wants to look back with regret!
