✨ Charms Crafting

What are Charms?

Charms are powerful magical items that can be crafted at the Charm Maker using various ingredients and Wand Charge. Each charm provides unique magical effects and has a limited number of uses before it becomes unusable. The success chance of casting a charm is based on specific skill requirements, and charms have three total uses before they deplete.

There are currently 8 different charms available in XenoSO, each requiring different skills and ingredients to craft. All charms require 300 Wand Charge to create, and the success of casting depends on your skill level in the charm's associated skill type.

Success Rates & Skill Requirements

Each charm is tied to a specific skill category that determines the likelihood of successful casting. As your sim develops proficiency in the required skill, the success rate improves proportionally. Higher skill levels not only increase success chances but also prevent wasted charm uses from failed attempts.

Universal Success Rate Formula

All charms in XenoSO follow the same success rate progression based on skill level:

  • 0-5 Skill: 70% success rate (30% failure chance)
  • 6-10 Skill: 80% success rate (20% failure chance)
  • 11-15 Skill: 90% success rate (10% failure chance)
  • 16-19 Skill: 95% success rate (5% failure chance)
  • 20 Skill: 100% success rate (0% failure chance)

Charm Effects

Critical Warning: All charms will automatically fail if the caster is a ghost, regardless of skill level or other conditions. This universal restriction applies to every charm type and will trigger the charm's failure effects.

Horn of Plenty

Required Skill: Cooking

Effect: Conjures 5 powerful food items nearby. These foods do not spoil and provide a substantial boost to Hunger, Energy, and Comfort.

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, a plague of 25 toads will spawn on the property. Each toad decreases all sims' hygiene by approximately 1 point per second. The toad plague can only be removed using a charged Red Magical Crystal or by waiting for the toads to leave naturally.

Dish Wish

Required Skill: Cooking

Effect: Cleans all dirty plates on the property, including group meal plates and single plates from custom foods.

Failure Conditions: The charm will fail if there are no dirty plates available to clean, if skill requirements are not met, or if the caster is a ghost. Upon failure, 25 dirty plates spawn on the lot. Note that plates already picked up by sims are tagged as "to be cleaned" and will not be accounted for in the charm's detection system. This also applies to stacked plates that were stacked by sims.

Beauty or Beast

Required Skill: Body

Effect: Temporarily transfigures the caster into another being. There are eight male and eight female possible outcomes, which are selected at random upon casting.

Male Transformations: Vampire, Werewolf, Sorcerer, Genie, Hunchback, Headless Horseman, Ogre, or Minotaur

Female Transformations: Crone, Vampiress, Ogress, Witch, Genie, Werewolf, Nymph, or Sorceress

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, all sims on the property will be given a donkey head. The donkey head remains until the affected sims leave the property or remove it using a magic mirror (if one exists on the lot).

Magic Mood

Required Skill: Creativity

Effect: Boosts all needs of all sims on the property, excluding the sim who cast the charm.

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, all sims on the property receive a substantial decrease to all needs, including the caster.

Perfect Garden

Required Skill: Mechanical

Effect: Revives all indoor and outdoor plants and waters your vines and garden plots.

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, the following outcomes occur based on what is present on the lot:

  • Inanimate Gnome Object Present: The gnome object will catch fire
  • Enchanted Gnome NPC Present: The gnome will become angry and attempt to kill plants that need watering, as well as damage vine and garden plots
  • No Plants, Vines, Plots, or Gnomes: An angry enchanted gnome NPC will spawn on the lot and exhibit destructive behavior

Polar Attraction

Required Skill: Charisma

Effect: Applies a hearts effect and accessory to everyone on the current property, along with a Social boost.

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, all sims on the property will have their Fun and Social needs drained substantially.

Rain of Riches

Required Skill: Creativity

Effect: Conjures fifteen gold treasures, gems, and coins around the caster, which can be sold for Simoleons or kept as decorative objects.

Failure Conditions: If the charm fails due to insufficient skill level or if the caster is a ghost, a rainstorm will occur on the lot, leaving puddles scattered across the property.

Shed Your Skin

Required Skill: Logic

Effect: Transforms the caster into a ghost from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM and freezes all needs during this time frame. Perfect for tackling extra-productive night-owl tasks. Needs return to normal between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM in-game time. If the caster leaves the lot, needs will begin to decay again, and if they revive themselves early, needs will immediately return to normal.

Failure Conditions: The charm will fail if cast outside the 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM time window, if skill requirements are not met, or if the caster is a ghost. Upon failure, a plague of 25 snakes spawns on the property. Each snake decreases all sims' Fun needs by approximately 1 point per second and causes sims to randomly panic. The snake plague can only be removed using a charged Red Magical Crystal.

Tips & Strategy

  • Wand Charge Management: All charms require 300 Wand Charge to craft. Make sure you have sufficient wand charge stockpiled before attempting to create multiple charms.
  • Skill Training: Train your skills to high levels before crafting and using charms to maximize your success rate when casting them.
  • Limited Uses: Remember that charms have limited uses (ranging from 1 to 6) before they become unusable. Plan your usage strategically.
  • Rain of Riches: This charm is single-use only but provides significant monetary value through the treasures it spawns. The rare ingredients make it expensive to craft, so use it wisely.
  • Ingredient Collection: Start collecting ingredients early, especially rare ones like Death Flowers, Dragon Scales, and Llama Spit, as these can be difficult to obtain.
  • Shed Your Skin Strategy: Perfect for night-time skill building or property maintenance without worrying about need decay. Time your usage to maximize productive hours.
  • Perfect Garden: Be mindful of Gnomes on your property when using this charm - they may not appreciate having their gardening duties taken over!
  • Magic Mood for Parties: Polar Attraction and Magic Mood are excellent for social gatherings, boosting guest satisfaction and creating a festive atmosphere.
  • Horn of Plenty vs Cooking: The non-spoiling food from Horn of Plenty can be more efficient than traditional cooking for maintaining your Sim's needs over time.
